More than 60 years in the service of music
In 2018 the European Union Choir celebrates its 60th Anniversary.
Since their advent in 1958, the objective of the European Union Choir has been to perpetuate the heritage of great classical composers and to use music as the universal language that it is, as a link between the peoples of Europe and the world.
The Choir is composed of 90 singers coming from many different horizons.
Frequently called upon to support European events, the European Union Choir has performed in many European towns and capitals. They have interpreted choral works, from baroque to our contemporaries with major European orchestras.

The Choir of the European Union was created in 1958 under the name of European Community Choir shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Rome. At its establishment it received the patronage of Walter Hallstein, President of the European Commission as well as Etienne Hirsch, President of the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom)

At the beginning of the sixties, the Choir inaugurated Easter Concerts at the St Michael Cathedral where they gave alternate performances of the St John and St Mathew Passions by Johan Sebastian Bach, in the presence of Queen Elizabeth of Belgium

With the signature of the Maastricht Treaty and the transformation of the European Economic Community into the European Union, the Choir renamed itself the European Union Choir

The Choir, composed of over 20 nationalities, is proud to reflect the multicultural character of Europe in Brussels. It is often asked to participate in important European events of which the most recent was the enlargement of the EU to 27 member states

The Choir frequently performs with renowned European symphony orchestras and soloists in many capitals and other cities across Europe. The Choir has performed the great choral works from the Baroque to the modern era: Bach, Charpentier, Vivaldi, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Cherubini, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Verdi, Gounod, Franck, Bruckner, Brahms, Saint-Saens, Bizet, Dvorak, Faure, Puccini, Stravinski, Villa Lobos, Jonegger, Orff, Poulenc……

In addition to the concerts that the Choir organises every year, it has been invited for a number of years to collaborate in concerts with prestigious conductors and orchestras such as the National Orchestra of Belgium, Orchestra of La Monnaie, the Cadre Noire de Saumur, la Musique des Guides…..
