A Message from the Charwoman of the EU Choir
|
Dear readers, dear listeners,
It is an honour for me to share with you the unique feeling of adventure which we share as choir members of the EU Choir. Building on its 55 years of existence, our musical training has progressed in line with great historic changes and the renewed artistic challenges of our times; indeed, by striving for perfection, we have been able to attract the most experienced and talented musicians. If we adhere to the saying that if the language of Europe is translation then the European anthem is the diverse interpretation and renewal of different musical traditions from across the continent which has produced the greatest composers in history. We live in a period when there are many more opportunities for different generations to work and play together on our continent and this is why we have decided to come together to sing, to experience different musical traditions and to perform innovative repertoire in our concerts. Launched by Walter Halstein, the first president of the European Commission, the EU Choir has performed with some of the greatest orchestras such as the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Strasbourg and even the Orchestra of the La Monnaie Opera. Coming from all corners of the world, the hundred or so choir members who have lent their voices to this group of musicians have also contributed over time to a mutual feeling of solidarity which underpins the construction of the EU. Therefore, in their name, I invite you to discover our activities and thank you most warmly for your continued support. Looking forward to seeing you on stage soon…. |
