In 2024 the European Union Choir is invited:
The EUROPEAN UNION CHOIR organizes an exceptional concert!
On the program are two masterful works performed with the « Ensemble Orchestral de Bruxelles »: In the first part, Beethoven's piano concerto n°5, known as the «Emperor Concerto», conducted by Jacques Vanherenthals and performed by pianist Abdel Rahman El Bacha. Since the revelation of his talent at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, which he won unanimously at the age of 19, he has performed in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe and the rest of the world. The Emperor Concerto is Beethoven’s last and certainly his mightiest work. In the second part, the hymn « Hör mein Bitten » for soprano, choir and orchestra followed by the secular Cantata « Die erste Walpurgisnacht » by Mendelssohn, conducted by Dirk De Moor. The text is a poem by Goethe that tells of the efforts of the druids of the Harz Mountains to perform their pagan rituals as a counterweight to the new dominant Christian forces. This mesmerizing work swings us back and forth between belief and superstition. Soloists : Julie Gebhart, sop. / Cécile Lastchenko, mezzo / Markus Ensthaller, ten. / Matthew Zadow, bar. > Tickets BOZAR For its Spring Concert, the European Union Choir will perform FAURÉ's REQUIEM and the SAINT-SAËNS' REQUIEM.
Gabriel Fauré (1845 - 1924) was a pupil of Camille Saint-Saëns (1835 - 1921) and through this concert, we wanted to pay tribute to these 2 geniuses of 19th century composition. This magnificent program will be performed at the Brussels Royal Conservatory, rue de la Régence 30, on Saturday March 25, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. The Ensemble Orchestral de Bruxelles, the European Union Choir and the soloists: Julie Gebhart, sop. - Julie Bailly, alt. - Laurens-Alexander Wyns, ten. - Samuel Namotte, bas. / Emmanuel Clacens, org.- will be conducted by Dirk De Moor. > Info & tickets (via Fnac tickets) The European Union Choir is invited by the Orchester Symphonique de Nivelles under the direction of Arnaud Giroud to perform Mozart's Requiem accompanied by soloists Céline Rémy, Marie-Laure Coenjaerts, Sébastien Romignon Ercolini, Bruno Silva Resende.
As a prelude, the Overture to the "Flûte Enchantée" and the delicate "Concerto for clarinet" (soloist: Bethsabée Hatzfeld). These concerts will take place on December 4 in Nivelles and December 11 in Brussels. The programme for this concert takes us back to 1791, Mozart’s last year, during which he composed some of his most famous works. The concert opens with the Overture to “The Magic Flute”, one of Mozart’s last operas (a Singspiel), which starts with three stately chords that are repeated regularly throughout the opera. It continues with the graceful “Clarinet Concerto” (soloist: Bethsabée Hatzfeld), one of the first of its kind and probably one of the most beautiful. Written for his friend, virtuoso clarinettist Anton Stadler, it has the classical structure of concertos, with 3 movements. The 2nd movement has become one of the most popular tunes of classical music, partly thanks to Sidney Pollack’s film, Out of Africa. For the concerto, the orchestra accompanies clarinettist Bethsabée Hatzfeld. The concert closes with the monumental and mythical “Requiem” (soloist: Céline Rémy, Marie-Laure Coenjaerts, Sébastien Romignon Ercolini, Bruno Silva Resende). Shrouded in mystery, the story behind it, drawing on the context in which it was composed and the way it is portrayed in Milos Forman’s film Amadeus, is far too complex compared to the facts. The only certainty is that the “Requiem” was a commissioned work that Mozart was not able to complete himself due to his untimely death. The magnificent and talented Marie Hallynck will perform the Camille Saint Saëns (1872) interpretation of the Concerto in A minor opus 33 for cello. Many composers, including Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff, have considered this concerto one of the greatest of all cello concertos. In addition, this brilliant performer also has a surprise in store for us…. Félix Mendelssohn's "Lobgesang Symphony-cantata" is a masterpiece made specially for large choirs. In addition 3 soloists, organ and orchestra appear in this work. Based on Biblical text, this grandiose hymn was composed and premiered in 1840 in Leipzig. This solemn work celebrates the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Gutenberg press. Its current form is a version that has been reworked and refined many times by the composer himself. A work that is reminiscent of the ‘Ode to Joy’ by L. van Beethoven (1824). Julie Gebhart, soprano Katarina Van Droogenbroeck, mezzo-soprano Markus Ennsthaller, tenor Pierre Brunello, organo You will not want to mois the unique, vocal and musical stylings provided by the performers, enhanced by the originality of the works and the rarity of their performance in concert.
