After the enormous success in 2018 of the "Requiem" from Brahms celebrating our 60th Anniversary,
the European Union Choir returns to the basics of European vocal music with a masterpiece of German baroque music  from Dieterich Buxtehude,

 "Membra Jesu nostri".

This ensemble of seven "cantatas" (each one has the same cantata concert aria), is the only "vocal cycle"  from Buxtehude. The Seven Wounds of Christ on the Cross, as the  Seven Last Words of Christ from            Haydn, Gounod, Franck or Dubois. The devotion of    the wounds of the suffering Christ is long-standing.       It was first about  six wounds,   then seven in order to recall the ideal symbolic figure.

Buxtehude proposes here a meditation in seven movements. In one great upward mouvement, the meditation raises itself from the earth towards the sky, up to the sublime face of the pain of man, not without bringing to light the heart of the  Redeemer. Les seven cantatas therefore refer, in turn, to the feet, knees, hands,  side, chest and face.

In the first part, you will hear choral pieces on the theme of Haydn's passion, Mendelssohn, Elgar, Bach, Gounod or even Brahms.
